omarandjohnny, I'm going to make a youtube list of the Christmas songs that *I* have to pause and listen, smile to! ^_^
Some are just amazing, some are fun, and some make me cry every single time I hear them.
So, we'll start with my #1 rec. From the Movie Toys:
The Closing of the Year by Wendy&Lisa. It's just an amazingly hopeful song, and fits my mood every single year. If you listen to all of the lyrics, that's the message that the world needs to hear, I think. At least, it's what I really need to hear. (Plus my inner Gilderoy is totally jealous and wants Seal's hat in this video.)
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas but sung by Ella Fitzgerald. Her voice is so perfect, so clean and clear, and the way this song is rendered is just so much more upbeat than just about every other version I've heard.
A Song for a Winter's Night by Gordon Lightfoot. I used he Sarah McLachlan version for the video I made, but this is the one I used to listen to as a kid, and I have a special place in my heart for it. If you want to see the other version (shameless self-promotion), you can see it here.
Ialmostdon'twanttoadmitit's "Baby it's Cold Outside" by TOM JONES and Cerys Matthews. Okay, those who know me to a certain unhealthy closeness know that I'm absolutely in love with and adore Tom Jones' voice. I totally think that if Sirius Black were to sing, his voice would be like Tom Jones. Seriously, it's totally not cold outside if he's melting everything with that lovely voice.
Go Tell it on the Mountain Sung by Anne Murray. I know there are better versions of this song out there, but you know, it's from A SOLID GOLD CHRISTMAS!!!! OMG, Solid Gold! Sorry. I just had to put this one in 'cause it's SOLID GOLD.
OMG. Okay, so I can't go on right now. I'll try to put more up later, but I'm stuck on the.... WTFness of the Solid Gold Dancers Christmas video. Seiously... Holy Shit! I remembered this being ridiculous, but.... this bad?!
