I experienced first hand today how "the other half" live.
Part of me wishes they could experience how I live.
I went with a friend from work to this scrapbooking party. Now, I don't do scrapbooking, but she's nice, and it helps to have another person there. So, anyway, I went.
She lives in a large 3-level 4-bedroom, 2 bath house on a half an acre of land. Not bad... Great for her family of four - Mom, dad, two boys and a dog.
Then there's her mother. Who lives in a 16-room home on an acre of land with a pool, two garages, a separate workshop. I walked in there, and felt instantly insignificant.
Until we went to the house where the scrapbooking party was. I have never felt so poor in my life. Her house was the same size as the last one, but in the bathroom, instead of a normal sink and bath, she had a multi-layer Japanese-style fountain sink and a jacuzzi tub in the same "hot springs" style...
And that's not the master bathroom, no. That's the guest bathroom.
It made me ill.
I live in a 5-room half-duplex with my son and a roommate. My son doesn't actually have a room. He sleeps in the basement 'cause there's no room for him. We have a living room, a kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom.
And I can barely make ends meet.
I think if I moved to Mexico, the income gap would be less dramatic.
