I need to find an affordable place to live.

Fast.

Don't know what to do, actually. I've got a month to come up with back rent plus this month's rent, and I only get paid $700 per paycheck. I might make another $20 today if I'm lucky... and possibly as much as $60 next weekend (comic cons haven't been doing very well lately).

That's not gonna do much to chip away at $1200 of rent due.

Does anyone know of any emergency help organizations?

can you ask for an advance on your paycheck? can you work out a payment plan with the landlord? instead of paying the overdue $700 right now, agree to pay 1/3rd over the next 3 months (or whatever you can manage). see if your community/town and any churches/temples/etc in the area have food pantries. get as much food as you can from as many of them as you can, then you can apply the money you normally would spend on food on your rent and bills.

much as you want to go to Ven's retreat thing, maybe you should put the money you raise doing art to go to that towards necessities like rent and food instead.

Yeah, I'm talking to her about it. Like maybe half this paycheck and half the next one.

The problem is that she has to pay her mortgage, too.

I've already got my plane ticket for Ven's retreat, though, and that's what I raised the money for. It's kind of like saying, "please donate to help me pay for the doctor visit for my sick cat," and then using the money to pay the power bill, instead.

No, I'm gonna finish up the rest of these portraits tonight and tomorrow, and I'll do another sale.

I think that's the best option.
